IMR 1440FL/COFL
Portable, continuous measuring flue gas analysis instrument housed in an aluminum case for measuring air temperature, flue gas temperature, Oxygen O2, Carbon monoxide CO (H2 comp.), Nitric oxide NO, losses, excess air, combustion efficiency, draft, Carbon dioxide CO2 and soot. Simultaneous display of eight measured parameters on the illuminated LCD. Integrated thermal printer and optional RS232 interface. Measurement printout or service printout, both include date, time and fuel type. ppm,mg,mg/kWh,mg(ref.O2) units are selectable. Automatic and manual CO-bypass.
Optional Memory for 220 measurements. Case has additional space for spare parts.
Forklift emissions and general safety
Forklifts are commonly used in warehouses of various size and capacity for the movement and shipping of goods; however, the unoptimized engines can produce excess quantities of silent and deadly CO gas that can risk the health and safety of the workers.
When forklifts are brought in for service usually the CO gas isn't measured. If the CO gas isn't measured and the engine properly optimized then the forklift can quickly turn into a deadly emitter of toxic CO gas. The amount of toxic CO gas emitted can reach 10 to 20 times normal levels. The "extra" emissions can turn a harmless factory workplace into a deadly gas chamber that systemically poisons the workers and can result in hospitalization and/or death.
Fortunately, with user friendly testing equipment from IMR Environmental Equipment, Inc it is very easy to measure the O2, CO and NO(x) (if required) emissions from any forklift. Our customized probe is flexible, allowing it to transverse the most convoluted tail pipes. With our precision measurement instrument you can quickly and easily see the emission levels and work on adjusting the engine to properly combust the fuel.
Our low cost IMR 1440 kit also includes a HC leak detector, CD100A, which is useful for making sure that the fuel tank isn't leaking and releasing HC gas into the workplace. In addition, the RPM Meter can also verify that the engine is running at the right RPMs. Finally, with our digital soot meter, there is no question about the amount of soot the engine is producing.
High CO emissions are dangerous and potentially deadly in the workplace. Using the IMR 1440 or the IMR 1440 kit, you can effectively prevent OSHA violations in the workplace while increasing your employees productivity by eliminating the fear of CO gases. The choice is in your hands, choose IMR and workplace safety today.
Tier 4 forklift engine guidelines
On January 1, 2013, the EPA implemented new Tier 4 emissions regulations on diesel exhaust in an effort to lower the amount of soot that is released into the environment. The requirement is to reduce soot by 90-95% compared to previous engines.
Tier 4 Benefits
Here are a few additional benefits the new Tier 4-compliant engines can provide for your operations:
Reduced soot by up to 90%
Reduced NOx by up to 50%
Increased engine performance
Precise control over the combustion process
Carbon monoxide thresholds
Concentration of CO in air | Exposure times and toxic symptoms |
---|---|
0.0009% (9 ppm) | The maximum allowable concentration for short term exposure in a living area according to ASHRAE |
0.0035% (35 ppm) | The maximum allowable concentration for continuous exposure in any 8 hour period, according to federal law. (US federal law) |
0.02% (200 ppm) | Maximum concentration allowable any time according to OSHA. Slight headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea after 2-3 hours. |
0.04% (400 ppm) | Frontal headaches within 1-2 hours, life threatening after 3 hours. Maximum allowable limit in flue gas according to EPA and AGA. |
0.08% (800 ppm) | Headache, dizziness, nausea, and convulsions within 45 minutes. Unconsciousness within 2 hours. Death within 2-3 hours. |
0.16% (1,600 ppm) | Headache, dizziness, and nausea within 20 minutes. Death within 1 hour. |
0.32% (3,200 ppm) | Headache, dizziness, and nausea within 5-10 minutes. Death within 30 minutes. |
0.64% (6,400 ppm) | Headache, dizziness, and nausea within 1-2 minutes. Death within 10-15 minutes. |
1.28% (12,800 ppm) | Death within 1-3 minutes. |
Gas information
CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) - Carbon Monoxide is often called “the silent killer”, because it gives no clear warning to its victims. It is an invisible gas with no taste or smell and it will not cause any unusual feeling in the nose, mouth or throat as it is breathed in. The first effects that are noticed are headache and faintness.
HYDROCARBONS (HC) - Hydrocarbons are a major component of smog. It can irritate the eyes, damage the lungs, and aggravates respiratory problems. A number of exhaust hydrocarbons are also toxic, with the potential to cause cancer.
NITROGEN OXIDES (NOx) - Nitrogen Oxides, like hydrocarbons are a component to the formation of ozone. They also contribute to the formation of acid rain.
CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2) - Carbon Dioxide does not directly impair human health, but it is a “green house gas” that traps the earth’s heat and contributes to the potential of global warming.
